WAL-MART 2008 GBRCTA Charity League benefiting Gulf Coast Teaching Family Services
- Format: 2 Leagues will be formed of 6 teams each. Each team will consist of 8-16 people who will compete in a World Team Tennis format. LEAGUE PLAY WILL BE HOSTED THIS YEAR BY SHERWOOD FOREST COUNTRY CLUB. THERE WILL AGAIN BE BEER AND ENERGY DRINK PRODUCTS PROVIDED BY MOCKLER BEVERAGE AND FOOD WILL BE PROVIDED FOR PLAYERS.
- How I get involved? Players just sign up by emailing Beau Brock at Beau@aquinasleague.org their cell phone number, email address and current NTRP level and will be placed into either the high level (Gold) league or the low level (Purple) league at the draft party ON 2/20/08 AND MOCKLER BEVERAGE ON REIGER ROAD.
- Open League (Gold) - One league of 6 teams will be open ratings and captains will play the best players available. EVERYONE IS STILL ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THIS LEAGUE – JUST LIKE LAST YEAR. If you only want to be considered in the draft for this league, please specify in your email when you sign up.
- 3.5 Team Level League (Purple) - The second league of six teams will be a 3.5 team level, and EVERYONE is encouraged to sign up for it even if 2.5 or 3.0 NTRP level, and any self-raters will be subject to our LOCAL verification.
- Scoring Method - No ad scoring will be used during each team match which will consist of 5 one set contests of the following courts: 1 men singles, 1 women singles, 1 men doubles, 1 women doubles, 1 mixed doubles. Players may compete twice in one night AGAIN THIS YEAR and possibly more if the event goes to Sudden-Death under special rules. All games in the five sets are totaled up to decide a winner. All 12 teams play at the same time ON HARD COURTS in a scheduled rotation. Any questions, please call Beau Brock at 252-6065 or Mark Percle at 205-8575.
- How to Apply to be included in the Draft: Players 21 YEARS AND OLDER of ALL levels are invited to place their names into the draft pool. There is no financial obligation to placing your name into this pool, and even if you are not selected, please come out and watch this new tennis league. In order to apply to be in the draft, simply send an e-mail to Beau Brock at beau@aquinasleague.org stating you want to be considered for the league. Players are expected to participate in the spirit of good sportsmanship and don’t bother signing up to play if you are unable to abide by the Tennis Code of Conduct, or have already exhibited a history of non-compliance. You must reside in East Baton Rouge Parish or any adjacent parish in order to be eligible to play. You cannot be a currently active college player. You do not have to be a USTA member. ALL PLAYERS WILL BE DRAFTED AND DIVIDED INTO A HIGH AND LOW LEVEL TEAM BY THE SIX CAPTAINS.
- Draft Pre-Season Party: The Draft party is scheduled for Wednesday February 20, 2008; 6:30PM. The draft will be run by the League officials and the 6 Captains will select their co-captains and their own teams of between 8-16 players depending on the available pool of players. No other players will be added to teams after the draft. We will be drafting over 200 players so please come and enjoy this NEW opportunity to play and enjoy the game. All players WILL be drafted either as active players or alternates! This party is for YOU, your spouse, or just a friend you want to bring along for the party!
- Play Dates & Match times: Matches begin on Friday, March 14th and continue through May. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to be played in May & June. All matches begin at 7 PM and will be played on Friday nights.
- Location of matches: All matches will be played at Sherwood Forest Country Club.
- Cost: Active players must pay $25 to play and alternates pay nothing until activated. No player may play without having first paid this fee.
- Benefits for Players: All players drafted will receive a league t-shirt and be eligible to play in all five (5) regular matches, and possibly the championship rounds. All applicants are invited to the Pre-Season draft party. Players drafted will then be eligible for match play, and their placement in the line up will be at the discretion of their particular captain. Champions will be awarded trophies at season’s end, and an MVP will be selected by the League Coordinator and League Commissioner. THERE WILL BE FOOD PROVIDED FOR PLAYERS DURING PLAY.

We are in need of cash sponsorships, silent auction items, raffle items and snacks for players to make this event an enjoyable community happening. Sponsors may qualify for placement on our Official League web page which will be on the Greater Baton Rouge web page located at: Batonrougetennis.com. Additional marketing opportunities are also available upon request. We WILL make any sponsor happy with this partnership, just ask us. This event is being organized by the Aquinas League and if you’d like to join or volunteer, please call Beau Brock at 252-6065.
- 501(c)(3) Charity receives net proceeds: Gulf Coast Teaching Family Services 501(c)(3) will receive 90% of the net proceeds and 10% will go the GBRCTA 501(c)(4). 100% of the Wal-Mart donation will go to the 501(c)(3).
- League Coordinator: Mark Percle - The Coordinator will be responsible for league play, scheduling, and updating of records and standings on the web page. He alone is the first line authority for rulings and disputes including sportsmanship and eligibility questions.
- League Commissioner: Beau Brock - The Commissioner selects the League Coordinator and is responsible for the organizing and funding of this project. He is the final arbiter of rules disputes, but great weight in any appeal will be given to any decision made by the Coordinator. The Commissioner is also authorized to include other necessary parties in any dispute resolution process he/she deems fit. The Commissioner can independently make any sportsmanship rulings he deems necessary in order to preserve order and the integrity of the league.
